Yue Wu is a Senior Researcher at Microsoft Azure Quantum, working on quantum error correction (QEC) and the systems that make fault-tolerant quantum computation practical. His research spans decoding algorithms, hardware acceleration, programming languages, and runtime systems, with an emphasis on open-source implementations.
During his first year at Microsoft, he developed deq, the world's first general, universal, and dynamic QEC decoding system. Building on the earlier LEGO architecture proposal, deq supports general QEC codes and custom logical instruction sets, including dynamic logical circuits with feed-forward and arbitrary branching. He presented deq in an invited talk at QEC 2026 in Santa Barbara.
His recent work also includes Micro Blossom, the first hardware-accelerated exact minimum-weight perfect matching (MWPM) decoder to achieve sub-microsecond latency on average, demonstrated on surface codes up to distance 13, and Hyper Blossom, which generalizes blossom-algorithm decoding to hypergraphs through the minimum-weight parity factor (MWPF) formalization, with conditional optimality proofs and an open-source implementation. His earlier Fusion Blossom work received the Best Paper Award at IEEE QCE 2023.
Yue completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Yale University in 2025, co-advised by Lin Zhong and Shruti Puri. He received his bachelor's degree from Peking University in 2020, where he worked with Chenren Xu on wireless and embedded systems.
